What is a Quinceañera?

A Quinceañera or Sweet 16th (debutante in the US), is a major milestone in the young lady's life. It signifies her entrance and crowing to womanhood and the acceptance of new responsibilities. The old tradition, which dates back to the 1500's, main purpose is her initiation to a life of high standards; faith, values, good morals, self respect compassion and service to her community. In other words to prepare her for life and its challenges.
